Have a look at some of the top players who competed at The Capital Classic on March 25-26, 2023. Keep an eye out for these players as they continue to grow through Main Event Basketball events.
Jeniyah Wood
Team Takeoff
7th Grade MVP
Jeniyah was a force during The Capital Classic; She displayed a high level ability to get herself to the basket to score and to also draw lots of fouls against those defending her. Not only is Jeniyah a force when headed downhill, but she is also the top defender in the girls division and possibly the entire class of 2028. She smothered ball handlers up and down the court. Jeniyah is absolutely a prospect we should all keep our eyes on.
Lillian Droze MVP
All Saints
4th Grade
Lillian had a massive weekend leading her team to the championship over a tough South Colonie squad. Lillian displayed great athleticism and a nose for the ball. Her offensive skills are advanced for her age and you can tell that she loves to play the game. We are looking forward to watching Lillian compete in our future events as she grows into the player that we believe she can be.
Mia Natale
Team Takeoff
7th Grade
Mia played her tail off this weekend showing a willingness to defend and play physically with both guards and bigs. Her shining points came from behind the arc though, showing off a consistent 3 point shooting stroke. She proved that she is a skilled shooter who brings much needed spacing to her very talented Team Takeoff team.
Kamryn Van Pelt
All Saints
4th Grade
Kamryn Van Pelt is a tough player who is not afraid to put her nose in the middle of a scuffle for the ball. She displayed a great ability to handle and score the ball. On the defensive side, she is a disruption on the court for opposing offenses and she does many things to help her team win. Keep an eye on this young lady in the future.
Mahogany Felix
Team Takeoff
7th Grade
Mahogany is a throwback NYC style guard with her ability to control the games with the ball in her hands. Defenders struggled to stay in front of her moving downhill with the ball in her hands; she is strong finisher around the basket with both hands and had the ability to heat it up from outside as well. Most impressive though is her ability to pick up steals in transition with her quick hands and great timing for picking pockets on the court.
Janae Byrams
City Rocks
8th Grade
Janae is a heady guard who knows how to play the game. She is a solid passer and knows how to protect the ball when its in her hands. Over the weekend she did it all for her team from scoring to assisting. We are looking forward to watching this Capital Classic Standout continue to grow as a player.
